The insurance companies of Ireland didn’t provide all risk insurance policies on mobile phones and laptops
The items such as mobile phones, hearing aids and laptops were not fully covered by insurance policies of all the risks therefore consumers should be warned. “The items taken outside the home usually would be excluded from homeowners policies even they would pay higher premiums”, The National Consumer Agency said.
According to the survey, the institute found five of the nine insurance companies in the Irish market wouldn’t pay compensation for laptops and mobile phones were stolen or damaged because it didn’t include the insured property. The agency said that the consumers who wanted to have a mobile phone or laptop is covered away from home had to list them on their policies as a specific item and this would come with additional costs.
Ann Fitzgerald as a chief executive of the National Consumer Agency said that you probably would do that if you had a smart phone or laptop that expensive, but you had to remember that you would be charged an additional fee ranging from € 125 to € 500, probably more expensive than the price of the items,”
The survey also said that households which recently made a claim for flood damage were struggling to get quotes from insurance. But the results, nine insurance refused to offer a bid. “The people who were struggling to get a quote had to approach the specialist broker”, Ms. Fitzgerald said.
