Provide Loans to Poor Students
Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa called upon the banks to be liberal in provision of loans for higher education to poor students on Thursday, at a meet organized by the commercial tax department. He had a word of advice for the nationalized banks, Yeddyurappa assured students of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) that he will look into the hefty donations sought for admission to colleges and schools. Yeddyurappa was urging the banks to bear educational expenses for at least meritorious students and four poor students each year and ‘adopt’ them. He said “I have already instructed the district commissioners to look into this matter.”
The state government would bear the educational expenses of two students, Yeddyurappa told. They are Shilpakala from Tumkur, she has dreams of taking the civil services examinations and Nagendra from Haveri. They are belonged to families too poor to bear the expenses of educating them further but performed well in the pre-university examinations.
Yeddyurappa told the state government in its 2011-2012 budget announced loan facilities for the children of farmers wishing to take up higher education. He added the state will bear the interest amount and banks should provide loans without any guarantee. Yeddyurappa told “Students could be allowed to repay the loan amount after the completion of studies.”
