Two Harbors Question Their Water Meters
The city leaders of Two Harbors and Two Harbors residents question what they’ll do with expensive water meters that delivered to their city if they’re not needed and why it happened. In 2009, the city was awarded $3 million in grants and loans for conservation improvements to its water tower and water infrastructure from the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority. City Attorney Steve Overom got instruction from the Two Harbors City Council to look into if the city is requiring in state mandates to install meters to meet the standards of water conservation.
Lee Klein as the City Administrator has asked by Chris Swanson as the Council member about they are part of the city’s water improvement plan and about the water meter delivery . At a meeting on Dec. 14, 2009 the council approved the meters, Klein said Swanson in an e-mail. The state agreement says it would be in violation of the terms of the loan if the city used water loan money to pay for the meters.
Rick Sundstrom The city’s financial director said he wasn’t sure if the meters had even been paid for, and he is look into whether money for the meters came from the loan fund. On Monday, Overom is expected to give a report back to the Two Harbors council.
