10,000 Negros farmers are assured by insurance
In a program held at the Negros Occidental Multi Purpose Gym on Friday, Agriculture Secretary Proseso Alcala, PCIC president Jovy Bernabe and Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. manage the initial distribution of the insurance coverage to 1,260 farmers.
Alcala told that the local government unit had allocated such funds for the farmer’s insurance coverage for the first time. The insurance coverage had pegged at P18, 000 for totally damaged crops while the amount of insurance coverage will depend on the extent of damage. With Negros First Food Security program, Capitol, through Negros First Universal Insurance Program (NFUCIP) will extend such assistance to farmers.
The aim is to provide protection and security to 10,000 farmers and their farms. This thing will provide protection to the farmers in case of infestations and calamities. This program will also require the participation of the local officials, barangays, private agencies, schools, cooperatives, associations and other organizations to be active in agricultural support.
It will also provide opportunity to the farmers in the barangays to do access to government services. In some cases, the LGUs shoulders for the farmer’s contribution, the Provincial Government will bear the premiums at P500 for the insurance program while the farmer will pay of P340 per crop. Alcala also adds that if it is successful, it will be replicated in some other provinces in the entire country.
