Consumer group wants to determine health insurance rates on 2012 with a ballot initiative
California — The consumer advocacy group Consumer Watchdog for determining the health insurance rates on 2012 took a ballot initiative. For entering the health insurance rates, the ballot measure will expand Proposition 103, which sets rates insurance of car and home in California. It will give a profit for health insurance rates by 20 percent and give the insurance commissioner power.
Many comments resist the ballot idea. On Friday, Steve Maviglio as Democratic political consultant said that the initiative effort isn’t real calling it an effort for saving a floundering Assembly Bill 52. AB 52, written by Mike Feuer, D-Los Angeles, would grant the insurance commissioner authority to regulate health insurance rates.
On Friday, The California Association of Health Plans said that they strongly opposed AB 52 and would dismiss the notion of a health insurance ballot initiative. Nicole Evans as association spokeswoman also said that what they’re focused and taking seriously now was AB 52.
“The Senate will pursue rate regulation in its strongest form,” said Jamie Court as president of Consumer Watchdog. This thing is an opportunity for doing (Proposition) 103 all over again for health insurance. Harvey Rosenfield as Proposition 103 author and Consumer Watchdog founder says that this opportunity is the right time to extend controls to the health insurance industry.
