The medical tourism is more expensive than private health insurance significantly
The figures have showed that private health insurance can be a safer and cheaper option for UK patients than medical tourism. Recently, around 2.65 million Britons have planned to go abroad for medical treatment. Some medical tourists go to abroad to avoid paying treatment, which is not available on the NHS. However, if they previously have private medical cover they can have these procedures done at no extra cost in the UK.
The procedure itself would cost patients upwards of £3,000 in abroad. However, if complications occurred, the costs of having surgery abroad could add thousands onto this price. In addition, the NHS would not make minor problems or long-term problems related to the surgery if they wanted to return in UK. Comparing health insurance quotes is one of an alternative option to medical tourism. For a 30 year old, the average health insurance premium is around £30 a month so that the totaling is only £360 a year while for a 65 year old; an average health insurance premium is around £70 a month so that the totaling is only £840 a year. May be it is lower with a discount scheme.
People with private medical insurance will accept hip replacement without extra cost with a consultant of their choice and in a private hospital of their choice. They will be nursed in a private room with excellent facilities. That £840 can also pay for cancer drugs too expensive to be used on the NHS. From health insurance comparison site ActiveQuote.com, Dr Richard Theo said that India was one of the most popular destinations for medical tourists because it has 13 nurses, 9 hospital beds for every 10,000 patients and 6 physicians. “In contrast, the UK had 103 nurses, 34 hospital beds for every 10,000 patients and 27 physicians”, he added.
