An Indian Ministry Got Involved in Corruption Scandal
These weeks are tough times for the Congress Party-led Indian government. All stems from the disclosure of transcripts of telephone conversations between the lobbyist who represents major corporations, top businessmen, and some journalists. Phone recording was made by tax officials. Not yet known how the recording of the telephone call could be leaked and then published by the media.
In one recording, the big businessmen mentioned support the appointment of A King as minister of telecommunications. King later forced to resign after it was revealed accidentally sells cellular phone license with very cheap price.
Action King is expected to cost the state upwards of $ 40 billion. Although King had retreated, opposition supporters are not satisfied. About 200 thousand people rallied in Delhi condemned the way the government handles this case. What is also of concern to many in India is the involvement of journalists in cases of corruption. Several prominent journalists seem to collude with big business groups.
Business journalists, Sunil Jain, admitted that reporters tarnished reputation, but he asked people not to forget that this scandal could be uncovered as well as the role of the media. Meanwhile, the leaking of this telephone conversation unfortunately was caused by some employers. Ratan Tata, one of the businessmen says this phone conversation is private and should not be opened.
