Free Dental Health Program for Children without Insurance
New Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) dental program would help improve dental health for children and youth for their teeth healthier and more productive lives. Tooth decay in children weren’t treated promptly could be a very bad influence, such as loss of sleep, failure to thrive, malnutrition, lazy learning and lazy to go to school.
This program would provide accesses to treatment of infectious diseases were largely preventable tooth decay and periodontal disease. This would reduce the progression of the disease and the children would be spared from the disease long-term tooth damage.
Two components were owned by the new dental HSO Program: prevention and treatment. Ottawa Public Health (OPH) would cooperate with communities throughout the city to focus on prevention and oral health education. Through our new partnership with Ottawa’s six community health centers and Aboriginal Health Access Centre, Oral health education and motivation would be sent to the targeted population.
Overall, the dental school-based screening identifies approximately 7.7 percent needed urgent dental care and the group that about 4 percent didn’t had dental insurance and no resources to pay for care.
In Ottawa, it was estimated that around 10,000 young people had met the requirements for the HSO program. Therefore, they should immediately send the application form completely. Healthy Smiles Dental Ontario cards would be mailed to the applicant after the application was approved.
