Sony Offers Identity Theft Insurance to Online Customers
Sony has promised to ensure the security of the PlayStation online service users against identity theft, violations of data obtained by hackers and personal customer data including credit card details. The promise is part of Sony’s limitation of damage after the theft of data of more than 100 million users of online gaming and entertainment services.
As a result, Sony discontinues the service while claiming there is no evidence that the details have been misused. In a letter to the users of the Sony PlayStation, Sir Howard Stringer as chairman and chief executive of Sony said that the policies worth $ 1m (£ 610,000) has been given to each user and user Qriocity Play station network in the U.S. and customer transactions in Europe will be in place long. At this time, all credit card or personal information no evidence has been misused, and we continue to monitor this situation. We are also planning to protect our customers from identity theft worldwide.
Stringer said that Sony will provide guarantees to users one month free membership to the PlayStation Plus, and expanded into the PlayStation Plus subscription and Music Unlimited subscribers for lost time after a cyber attack when the service has been discontinued. Stringer also asserted that the FBI was actively investigating the attack to find the hackers responsible for this problem.
