COBRA coverage is still a viable enterprise?
We listened to a local news cast that Cobra insurance is canceled, but heard nothing about national news? Has anyone heard anything?

You misunderstand. COBRA is not an insurance company or plan. It is an acronym for a law under which existing employer group health insurance can be continued for a period of time after an employee leaves the company or is terminated. It has not been “canceled.”

The only thing you might have heard is that a one-time federal subsidy to help unemployed people PAY for COBRA has not been extended.
Instead of, say, paying $150 for a month’s coverage, a single individual will have to pay $450.
For a family, the monthly premium is often more than their unemployment check.

Cobra isn’t a COMPANY. It’s a law. It says, after you leave your employer, you can continue to stay on their insurance for up to 18 months, at your cost.
Obama’s stimulus plan, said that the goverment would pay for 2/3 of the cost, for the first six months, until December 2009. The news said, December 2009 is here, it’s up.
Cobra isn’t cancelled. It’s not a company. And the government subsidy has expired.
