Insurance Companies Benefit from Clean-up
New report while the insurance of Queensland’s passionate army of volunteers may have accidentally saved insurance companies millions of dollars as payment for the removal of debris after the floods. Last weekend 22,000 registered volunteers and possibly triple that amount, they were registered, sleeves rolled up on to make flooded homes in Brisbane, business and sports clubs to clean. For those who were lucky enough to be insured, they would have been made for the cost of the remediation and removal of debris.
Suncorp Insurance spokesman Mike Sopinksi stated in an e-mail Suncorp Insurance housing policy provides for the removal of debris from the site, but has no figures on the average clean-up prize. The cost of removing the debris of the individual sites will vary from site to site. Suncorp Insurance has received more than 10,000 claims from across Queensland since Christmas.
Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser asked whether insurance companies that have benefited from the goodwill of the volunteers have an additional donation to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal, or both, from the money saved. The sooner we help people back on their feet, the faster Queensland can rebuild after the devastating floods. RACQ Insurance says that 3,500 claims, which motor vehicles, which would include flood-related.
