10-year forgivable loan
One of the most important things a politician to Sue Stult is making sure low-income New Brunswickers have food in their cupboards. The Social Development Minister said “Feeding people is as grass roots as you’re going to get.” it’s difficult for adults to go to work or kids to go to school if their minds are on their hunger. Stultz’s colleagues in the provincial government feel the same way.
Yesterday morning, Food Depot Alimentaire Inc. at 330 MacNaughton Avenue in the Caledonia Industrial Park in Moncton dropped the minister. They made a major funding announcement that benefits the charitable organization. The provincial government is providing a 10-year which was built five and a half years ago. It is about $550,000 forgivable loan to support FDA to pay off the remainder of the mortgage owing on its food distribution facility.
FDA is managed by a nine-member board of directors and has been in operation for more than 20 years. It services include fundraising, food distribution, advocacy and food collection. FDA services more than 20 food banks, agencies, and community kitchens in southeastern New Brunswick. The company operates distribution centre and a state-of-the-art warehouse that has a 1,080-square-metre. It shipped enough food to feed 1.12 million meals to 30,000 families last year.
